Free crochet pattern: Beanie for 3 - 10 years old

Sometimes I see myself laughing all alone not that I'm crazy but it's all because of my silly memories with my little boy. It was late at night when we met with his friends to give the beanie that I made as Eid gift. Little Abdurahman was not used on wearing headwear, so when I tried to put it on him he kept escaping and my son who is my accomplice held his friend tightly on the arms and forced his friend to wear the beanie. It was a funny moment that I've witnessed and a sweet memory that I will tell my son when he grow up.

And here I've written a pattern of a beanie that he requested and this is actually the fifth one that I've made for him.

I like it how my son's beanies are so unique that it gives distinction. And the proof with that is when I met this woman from the same city and told me that we look familiar and she think we've met at the same Masjid from last year cause she recognized my son's beanie. Here's that beanie...

Anyway, stop with the stories and let's start making a beanie.

The size will fit three years old up to ten years old.
Materials : Crochet hook 5/0 3.00mm
                   DK light acrylic yarn
                   Stitch mark
                   Measuring tape
                   Scissor

US term abbreviations
                 ch : chain
                 sk : skip
                 st : stitch
                 sts : stitches
                 sl st : slip stitch
                 sc : single crochet
                 dc : double crochet
fpdc : front post double crochet
bpdc : back post double crochet
2dc : two double crochet in one stitch

Special stitch : Bead stitch
dc, (yarn over, insert hook around the post of the dc that you just made, pull up a loop) repeat 3 x, now you'll have a 7 loops on the hook, yarn over and pull through all 7 loops on the hook.

Hint:
-In this beanie we are going to start working on rounds and will end working on rows.
-We will work on a continuous round.
-And you will notice that I didn't end the round with sl st and I didn't start the round with chains this is because we don't want a seam line in our project.
-That's why it's very important to use stitch mark in the first st when starting a round.
-The numbers inside of the parenthesis at the end of every round and row are the total number of sts that you should have.

Hint: Please do not forget to use stitch mark in your first stitch when starting a round.

We'll work on continuous round, that means no sl st at the end, no chains in the beginning, no turning and  you'll always work your first stitch in the first stitch of the previous round.

Round 1 : ch 3, 12dc in the the third chain from the hook. (12sts)
Round 2 : 2dc in every sts. (24sts)
Round 3 : (2dc, dc) repeat 12x. (36sts)
Round 4 : (2dc, dc in the next 2 sts) 12 x. (48sts)
Round 5: (2dc, dc in the next 3 sts) 12 x.  (60sts)
Round 6 : (2dc, dc in the next 4 sts) 12 x. (72sts)
Round 7 : (2dc, dc in the next 5 sts) 12 x. (84sts)
Round 8 : (2dc , dc in the next 6 sts) 12 x. (96sts)

Hint : At this moment your crown width should be 6 inches. And if not please continue increasing until you reach the right size. Follow the pattern above on how I increase.

Round 9 : dc in the next 96 sts. (96 sts)
Round 10 : repeat round 9
Round 11 : dc in the next 96 sts, turn. (96sts)

Now we're going to start working on rows.

Hint: -The chains in the beginning are not counted as a stitch.
-Bead stitch is counted as  two stitches.

Row 1 : chain 2, (Bead stitch, skip 1) repeat 48 x, Turn. (96 sts)
Row 2 : chain 2, dc in the next 96 sts, turn. (96sts)
Row 3 : chain 2, fpdc in the next 96 sts, turn. (96sts)
Row 4 : chain 2, bpdc in the next 96 sts, turn. 96 sts)
Row 5 : chain 2, fpdc in the next 96 sts, turn. (96sts)
Row 6 : chain 2, (Bead st, skip 1) repeat 48x, turn. (96 sts)
Row 7 : chain 2, dc in the next 96 sts, turn. (96sts)
Row 8 : chain 2, bpdc in the next 96 sts, turn. (96sts)
Row 9 : chain 2, fpdc in the next 96 sts, turn. (96sts)
Row 10: chain 2, bpdc in the next 96 sts, turn. (96sts)
Row 11 : (chain 1, sk, sc ) repeat 48x, turn. (48sts, 48 chains)
Row 12 : chain 2, (bpdc around the sc, dc in the chain) repeat 48 x. (96sts)
Row 13: chain 40, sl st in the next 40 chains,
sc at the raw edge of the beanie (see photo below)
chain 40, sl st in the next 40 chains,
and lastly sl st at the last sc, ch 1 and fasten off.
